Gambrinus was in my archives but this giant sculpture can be otherwise seen at the end of Passeig de Colom in Barcelona, its big pincing claws but cheeky smile welcoming you to the port. This huge fibreglass lobster was done by Javier Mariscal (Spain, 1950 - ) for the Barcelona 1992 Olympics. It hosted a café-bar during that time. Click to enlarge!
And then I stood right under it. Yes, from the ground up it looks this:

ReplyDeletehe looks kind of friendly through your lens :)
ReplyDeletewhat a fun statue!
My first thought, when I saw the claw, was that you were feeling crabby, but I see that you were just watching, "The Attack of the Lobster MEn From Mars" movie. I love the end of the movie when they're all pushed into a boiling vat of water and served to the surviving villagers with drawn better and pints of ale.
ReplyDeleteThat is way cool! So simple yet so inviting... just terrific. Kudos to the sculptor.
ReplyDeleteGahhhhhh I love the funny expression on its face though :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
