True Colors Thursday is brought to you today by the wonderful color turquoise. Little did I know earlier this week that a (much needed) trip to the car wash was going to place turquoise soap dots in front of my very eyes. I didn't have a newspaper to read so what else was to do at the car wash but snap pictures of a colorful windshield. Only to discover afterwards that it actually shows some turquoise. Or doesn't it? Somehow it looks like an insane piece of automated modern art to me...
The joy of an amateur gardener follows below.
I bought two amaryllis (the bulbs) for the first time ever last fall and I enjoyed the beautiful red and white flowers...of one of them! the second bulb produced green leaves but never a flower, I waited for a plain white amaryllis which never showed up. I stopped watering them in December (I think) and placed the dormant bulbs away, just like the net told me to do, hoping for colorful beauty sometime in the fall again.
To my surprise one of the plants showed a green tongue about 10 days ago:
and it's growing!! I am watering both plants again. I didn't mark the bulbs so my next surprise will be to discover which one of the amaryllis is the one growing now. Is it most likely the one which didn't bloom last fall? Place your bets!
Do they really use coloured wash or is some kind of interference pattern ?
ReplyDeleteWhatever, it works brilliantly.
What wonderful photos and great explanation. I will be anxious to see the amaryllis. I love those plants :)
ReplyDeleteI took pictures at the car wash too last week, but yours are much better!!
ReplyDeleteOur amaryllis have bloomed and are now done for the year....I love 'em so. I can't wait to see a full blossom of yours.
ReplyDeleteI do agree the car wash bubbles would pass for modern art any day - great take on todays colour.
ReplyDeleteI'm so none green fingered I wouldn't even have one Amaryllis shot, will await the outcome. My moneys on the White one.
Best wishes
Blue
Oh that first photo with turquoise soap dots is really a piece of art! An extraordinary and very successful shot indeed! Have a great day! Ciao! :-)
ReplyDeleteNow I know you're a photographer...taking pictures inside a car wash :-) Actually quite a nice result!
ReplyDeletethat soap is beautiful! I bet most folks don't even consider it.
ReplyDeleteand for the Amaryllis I can't get mine to bloom. We put it in the garage last winter and it is now growing, very tall but it hasn't produced a bloom. :(
The car wash makes a very pretty picture...love it.
ReplyDeleteI can not keep an Amaryllis from one year to the next..good luck on it flowering..:-)
This first shot is amazing ! I would never have guessed what it was ! It looks terrific ! what a creative idea !!! It looks super !!
ReplyDeleteand your green thumb works too ! My petunias are growing in the flower pots and the entrance looks really very nice now.
Nooooo... I'm betting it IS the one that bloomed last fall. The other is probably a bit of a dud. I've been told that you can "push" them to bloom twice a year... I don't know if that's really "good" for them or not -- but that's what I've been told. It will be interesting to SEE though which of them it is! This is fun!
ReplyDeleteOh... by the way - you reminded me I had taken some carwash photos awhile back that I never did post... Yours is a LOVELY turquoise though! I don't think any of mine came out that pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the photograph of the soap bubbles, so creative. I love the shots of your amaryllis. I have amaryllis that I planted outside after it bloomed inside and it has spread out and keeps coming back year by year. I have about 10 plants that began with 2. I didn't divide them so not sure how it happened but I'm not arguing with it.
ReplyDeleteI recognized the photo immediately. I took a similar shot several months ago but the car wash was just too dark inside and my colors didn't come out well. You did great!
ReplyDeleteAs for plants -- our Christmas Cactus blossomed for Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter. It is apparently a Holiday cactus!
You can make everything into art: car was as well as flowers - very well captured!
ReplyDeleteYou are so amazing to me...I often sit in my car thinking how beautiful the colors are on the windshield at the car wash. How wonderful you are to think to take a photo. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well.
Hugs,
I didn't know what the first picture was until I read your post. I would never have guessed it was soap bubbles. :D
ReplyDeleteCar wash, what is that? in the mountains my car just goes from more brown to less brown.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Soap Bubbles and I agree it looks like Modern Art---And, in a way, it is! (lol)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that these bulbs are sprouting once again....I have a few of these Bulbs that began growing again and all I got were the Green Leaves...No Flowers the second time round...And I'm not sure why!
The soap froth is wonderful - so many colours. Irresistible!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the Amaryllis.
