A week ago (I hope it is still allowed for the WS!) we were celebrating New Year's in the French Alps. The small village was beautifully decorated and offered a colorful program at 6:30 pm which included a spectacular descente au flambeaux : Torchlight Descent by the ski instructors (which is very pretty to watch but very hard to photograph!) with festive music, followed by wonderful fireworks. In addition there was mulled wine for the adults and hot chocolate for the little ones, very welcomed as the temperature was around -10ºC/14ºF !
Wow! What fun! I tried mulled wine for the first time last year. It has lots of spices in it. A good tasting experience though.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been very beautiful and also funny ! Nice start into the New Year !
ReplyDeleteCan't put food out for Lisa, first she wants to be served and second the bowl would be empty there are not only our cats but also the neighbor cats who like Lisa's food !
You didn't have your son's friends coming through the cat flap, lol !
Ohh that must be really Fun..I never tried mulled wine, not fan of anything like that..
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had fun!

ReplyDeleteLovely photos. I'm sure you had fun.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful. I love the torchlight procession photo. Thanks for telling us about this event.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun! And I tried mulled wine once last year and it actually tastes good to me:) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteWow! Mulled wine AND cute ski instructors? Where do I sign up?
ReplyDeletethat's interesting!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing about it.
happy WS!
That looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteOHHHHHHHHH MY! That top shot is spectacular!!! How EVER did you do it??? I bet the ceremony was fabulous to see! And the mulled wine -- isn't that Wassail? I've always thought wassail was mulled wine - but at church this Christmas Eve we had "wassail" and it was mulled cider. I thought they probably just did that cuz it was church - and for the kids too...
ReplyDeleteI just Googled it.... Wikipedia says wassail IS cider. Dumb me, I guess! It did say that in oooollllddden days it was spiced mulled beer. EW! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun. I love mulled wine. I used to work for a company owned by a British company and we had mulled wine at the Christmas party. I used to make mulled wine after that (1980s) as I got the recipe from the owner's wife who made the mulled wine. I stopped making it in recent years, too lazy. However, you reminded me of how much I like it so maybe next Christmas I will make it again.
ReplyDeleteI get the idea! The photos are great, Mar! How lucky to be in the French Alps!

ReplyDeleteWow! how cold.... brrrrrr.... I'm just very pleased that it has started to rain over here, so the snow is almost gone. For now. It's still months of risk for snow.... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThough we still hope to go to Spain sometime soon with my best friend, so I have something to look forward too.
I know I couldn't survive those temperatures! I hate it when it drops below 50 degrees here! But it looks like you all were having fun! Thanks for stopping by my site!

That had to be quite FANTASTIC, Mar....(Perrect time for a "video"...lol)....To see all those lights coming down the mountsin....It had to be a stunning display!
ReplyDeletelooks like you had a great trip! I'm so jealous. I really need to visit Europe one day. There's this Travel show on PBS that we catch sometimes and they showed a trip to the Galapagos Islands via a sail boat and that just looked like so much fun. I told DH I wanted to do that and he rolled his eyes. Well perhaps I'll have to do that one alone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful way to celebrate!! That must have been an amazing sight to see!!! Great photos!!
ReplyDeleteMulled wine, never had that before. Is it good? I'll have to put that on my "to Try" list!! ;)
You did a great job of getting the pics! That sounds like it must have been fun, despite the cold!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit!
What a fun way to start the new year!
ReplyDeleteKeep those photos coming, Mar!
Btw, I had to laugh when I read about the clean house and no internet connection. My sentiments exactly :D

My WS post
Beautiful! I remember that! :-)
ReplyDeleteOK, I feel homesick now... ;-)
I'm so glad you popped in on my site (via Island Life) so that I could link to yours. Your weekend snap shot has made me jealous. I love to travel, yet have so many young children that it's difficult/impossible. I'll just have to do my travelling vicariously for now, I guess. My posts are usually much lighter....please feel free to come back and comment anytime! :)
ReplyDeleteWow great shots!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds gorgeous: both the sight of the lit torches coming down the slopes and the mulled wine and hot choc! Mmmmm :)
