X is for xerophytic...

is below!

I thought our x-rays weren't a fun subject to photograph and I am not in a Xmas mood, so I referred to this unusual list of x words for ideas. And settled for the following terms..

xe·ro·phyte [zeer-uh-fahyt] –noun
a plant adapted for growth under dry conditions. Source

xerophytic - adjective
adapted to a xeric (or dry) environment; "cacti are xerophytic plants"; "xerophytic adaptations"
Source

I have never heard these terms before, so I learned something new again...! and this was the perfect chance to post the above pictures from my archives. They were taken in April 2006 in a private garden outside Seville.

  8. I love cacti! Should we tell Melli they grow in Hawaii where there is lots of rain and that the secret to growing them is really good soil drainage?

  10. cool idea!

re: the contest. I'm not so sure that we could fit that much equipment in our backyard. LOL! But yes you have a good point.
one of the gals found that the fine print said the winner has to pay the Taxes on the prize. So the school gets the equipment and the "winner" gets to pay the IRS for it. BOO! I think this might just backfire on them.

  13. Wonderful photos, Mar. I've been doing a bit of study on Xeriscape gardens for awhile now, I'd love to make my whole yard xeriscape. Unfortunately, I've not done any photography around the subject, just reading... but there was one photo, just one, haha.
