I thought our x-rays weren't a fun subject to photograph and I am not in a Xmas mood, so I referred to this unusual list of x words for ideas. And settled for the following terms..
xe·ro·phyte [zeer-uh-fahyt] –noun
a plant adapted for growth under dry conditions. Source
xerophytic - adjective
adapted to a xeric (or dry) environment; "cacti are xerophytic plants"; "xerophytic adaptations"

I have never heard these terms before, so I learned something new again...! and this was the perfect chance to post the above pictures from my archives. They were taken in April 2006 in a private garden outside Seville.
Very clever Mar, and now you have kindly passed on that learning!
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the top pic :)
And I just thought you were a kind of Wunderkind ! because you know such sophisticated words, lol ! but thanks for the link it can be useful in the futur !
ReplyDeletePretty pictures and I learn a new X word.
ReplyDeleteThat top picture is one of my favorite Opuntias....It is very very sweer...I believe it is Microdaysys....BEAUTIFUL plany and a BEAUTIFUL Picture, dear Mar....
ReplyDeleteThe top image is also my favorite -the texture of those are appealing. Well done, informative post!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh you and Quilly were thinking very much alike today weren't you!? I love those cacti! I actually wish I COULD grow them here... but then I would have to give up rain... and I love rain more I think!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great X photos!! How large do those grow?
ReplyDeleteI love cacti! Should we tell Melli they grow in Hawaii where there is lots of rain and that the secret to growing them is really good soil drainage?
ReplyDeleteAnd I learned something new here. Hoe cool! :D
ReplyDeletecool idea!
ReplyDeletere: the contest. I'm not so sure that we could fit that much equipment in our backyard. LOL! But yes you have a good point.
one of the gals found that the fine print said the winner has to pay the Taxes on the prize. So the school gets the equipment and the "winner" gets to pay the IRS for it. BOO! I think this might just backfire on them.
i've always been fond of cacti so love this one :)
ReplyDeletei wanted to do something along this line, too, but settled for a completely different solution
It's always fun to learn new words and I've learned from this post. Good shots for x.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, Mar. I've been doing a bit of study on Xeriscape gardens for awhile now, I'd love to make my whole yard xeriscape. Unfortunately, I've not done any photography around the subject, just reading... but there was one photo, just one, haha.
ReplyDeleteWhoof!! Look prickly to me, but they are purty. Bark! I got an X post too, arf, arf.
ReplyDeleteDid not know about this word -xerophytic.
