The peculiar street lamps designed in 1906 by Pere Falqués i Urpí (please note the bat at 12 o'clock, on top of the crown, no special meaning has been given to it) found in central Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, a city which is said to represent the world's greatest urban concentration of Modernist or Art Noveau architecture. This movement is characterized by amazing combinations of curved surfaces, as opposed to harsh corners and straight lines. Another example of that is the (partially) pictured Gaudi building : La Pedrera.
I find it proudly playful! Beautiful shot. So often we miss some of these delightful details as we walk or drive.

Yes, peculiar but reminds me of black lace that I associate with Flamenco...hmmm but that music comes from southern Spain and not Barcelona. Hope I haven't confused you too much here with my thinking. :)
ReplyDeletelove this post for the letter P
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of streetlamps in my photo archives - but nothing like this one!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful ironwork.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the guy who made it just couldn't stop himself. Despite all the curlycues, this lamp standard still has a clean, simple air about it.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a close-up of that Bat....I love when Artists create things using certain objects or--in this case--animals, that are unexpected....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE That whole period in Arcitecture and "art"....Gaudi was something else, wasn't he? I so wish I could be Spirited to Barcelona and see all of these things "in person"....!
Lovely Picture, my dear Mar.
Looks very beautiful ! I hadn't seen the bad and was wondering that the Old Lady of the Hills commented on a bat. I had a closer look and found it, indeed that's quiet special !
ReplyDeleteGaudi is particularly peculiar! My ABC Wednesday this week is Pink!
ReplyDeletePerfect PICK for P! Late visiting from ABC Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHand and Foot Prints is my P, please come and see.
