Pictures recently taken in Chile. It's locally called a crespon or Jupiter's tree but it is actually a Lagerstroemia or Crape Myrtle, originally from Asia. I love it!!

I love crape myrtles too. I have one in my back yard and one in my front yard (mine are very tall). Where I live they are bare in the winter, start forming new leaves in the spring and bloom in the summer. All these years I've been misspelling them. Besides enjoying your photographs, I'm glad you provided the link and showed the Crape spelling. I always thought it was crepe but thanks to you I now know better.
ReplyDeleteThey grow all over NC, Mar, and I have a miniature one in my backyard, that is a deep watermelon color.

ReplyDeleteOver HERE it's crepe myrtle -- and I LOVE it!!! I had ordered TEN of them in BRIGHT BRILLIANT RED about 4 years ago... but I never got them. The "reds" were gotten by some sort of 'blight' that year and they never could ship them! I have never seen them advertised again -- so maybe they are no more... that would just be SAD! But I've also never given IN to get the pink ones - cuz those RED ones were sOOOOO spectacular, I just WANT them! Beauuuuuuuutiful flowers, indeed!

I love Crape Myrtle's! I had 24 at our old house in Georgia...have only a few here at the house in Texas. But at least I have some!
