holiday shots

It is very hard to take pictures skiing on a sunny day. Many shots are lucky ones as I truly couldn't see the tiny screen. Just for your information, these are the French Alps and the scenery belongs to the 3 Valleys - The Trois Vallées (Three Valleys) boasts over 600 km / 373 miles of well connect groomed pistes. It's an amazing ski domain which contains 3 well connected valleys (plus a small 4th valley) giving a real variation in skiable areas. Click on the skier for a map! Oh, and the pictures come straight from the camera, no photoshop involved ! (updated because Gattina mentioned that in the first comment...!)

Striped scenery:

Mr 19 off piste (one of the lucky shots):

Some bloggers show their stilettos, let me show you my ski boots!

Our daily stairway to heaven:

We had splendid weather most of the time, but a couple of days it looked like this out of our window (fortunately it didn't last the whole day!). The mountains are still there, behind the tree, so to speak...

And last but not least here is the question of the day: what kind of bird is this one? (calling birdwatchers!) Sorry about the quality, but I had to be quick!

  1. Wow ! this sky looks photoshopped ! It's really an unreal blue but I believe you that it was true ! Mr. 19 looks like a flea in a piece of cotton, lol ! You must have had a wonderful weather ! Unfortunately I don't know the breed of the bird, I am not very updated on birds due to my cats !

Love the sun peeping over the trees - and Mr M doing his thing off-piste...and what lovely boots you have, my dear :-)

  5. Mar - Wonderful shots of the Alps! I had a great time skiing the Alps, but, like craziequeen, I was a huge failure.

I'm not sure what kind of bird that is. I know virtually nothing about Old World birds. However, whenever I am stumped, I post the link (or the picture) at the WhatBird Forum http://www.whatbird.com/forums/forums/default.aspx

I usually get a response within a few hours and the people there are super knowledgeable!

    Have a great New Year!!

  8. Those are gorgeous photographs Mar. I love all of them and was entranced by the bird all puffed out for warmth. I may show my stupidity but it looked like a thrush to me. I looked them up in my bird book and a veery is the closest I could find. They are 16-19cm or 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches. I couldn't tell the size from the picture. I am also not sure if a veery would have been where you are. Below is a link with some shots of them. http://www.oiseaux.net/birds/veery.html
