NaBloPoMo -day 7: downtown Hamburg

I was very surprised to see this motorboat in the middle of a very busy street! the reason? The 48th international Boat Show in Hamburg, which took place from Oct 27th until Nov 4th. We used to visit this show when we lived in Hamburg and remember some beautiful (and expensive) sailing boats! This street - Jungfernstieg - used to have tall, beautiful trees. For a reason I don't know the trees are gone and the street looks so bare to me... On the left you see "Alsterhaus", a department store named after the lake which you would see on the right if I had a (very) wide angle!

  1. hehe, i bought my "Hamburg" fridge magnet at a tourist shop just up the Jungfernstieg, on the left, on the way to Gänsemarkt :) We love sitting by the canal on Alter Wall!

  3. Do you think the trees that used to be there were Elm trees? Maybe they got that Dutch Elm disease? We have lost sooooooo many beautiful Elm trees to that awful disease in this country! Whole neighborhoods full of them! It's soooo sad!

That would be fun to see the boat show! Heck, it would be FUN just to BE in Hamburg! Maybe SOMEday... sOMeday... someday...

  5. Such a shame the trees are gone. I always like to see nature in built up areas. The boat looks very incongruous! Great pics :-)

  6. I was wondering why there was a boat in the street! No bikini models for the boat show?

  7. When I was 12-14 years old, I had a pen pal from Hamburg. Her name was Christa Dietz. I often wonder what happened to her.

Nice to see photos of Hamburg.
