Sightseeing in Seville (2) and TT 66

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate and happy Thursday to everyone else. I will be showing you some pictures I took last weekend while in Seville (75 minutes away from Barcelona by plane). I have found great codes in the net for better presentation but they just don't seem to work with my template, maybe because it was automatically "adapted" when everything changed. Was it already a year ago?

Sightseeing in Seville (1) is here.

1. Another view of the Cathedral: this time is the Moorish tower, La Giralda, which is one of three remaining Almohad minarets* in the world (the others are in Marrakesh and Rabat, Morocco). It was the tallest tower in the world at 97.5 m (320 ft) in height when built (1184-96)

* Minaret: Tower-like structure usually associated with mosques or other religious buildings.

2. Another view from the other side. Here you can also see a couple of the many orange trees which are all over the city.

3. And again, busy tourists around the cathedral where the horse carriages are ready to take you for a ride!

4.
The Golden Tower, one of the city's landmarks right next to the Guadalquivir river.

5. Besides the traditional ham, here you can also taste this delicious "gamba blanca"(white prawns), originally from Huelva. It has all its flavor as it is only boiled in salt water! Update: those are hard bread sticks on top!

6. A tapas bar early in the morning. Notice the tall tables out in the street, people don't mind standing up for hours chatting, eating and drinking (mainly beer)

7. This is how close you can be to your neighbor. Notice that you can actually hand out a cup of sugar through the window!

This was a lovely private home I got to visit but had to leave the blogger in me out in the street and put my camera away, although I kept thinking how wonderful it would have been if I could have taken pictures of the beautiful home! It was a traditional Sevillean town house, fully reformed and the owners were able to keep all the style and flair, a true piece of art!

8. A beautiful façade in the most used color: yellow

9. One of my favorite buildings, which I think is a private home, right next to a huge park: Jardines de Murillo

10. This huge tree is to the right of the above home, in the park

11. Another perspective of the Jardines de Murillo...

12. And another one! I love large green areas...

13. And last but not least a detail of a remarkable building (click to enlarge!)

here is more of it, formerly a casino and currently a dance and flamenco theater:

It was hard to choose thirteen pictures! but at the same time I couldn't have technically posted more, since blogger wasn't been very cooperative either!

sightseeing in Seville (1)

Upon our arrival in Seville at 9am and a nice breakfast, we went for a walk. In fact, we did a lot of walking but it was needed because a) there is a lot to see and b) to counteract the effect of all those delicious tapas!

At the Plaza Nueva we were greeted by this bull. A sculpture used to decorate the Expo 1992. It was already 15 years ago!

Here is a view of the Cathedral,It is the largest of all Roman Catholic cathedrals (Saint Peter's Basilica not being a cathedral) and also the largest Medieval Gothic religious building, in terms of both area and volume.

The Cathedral also has a large collection of religious jewelry items, paintings and sculptures, along with the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Click to enlarge the pic of the cathedral at night.

The surroundings of the Cathedral are very busy, there were many tourists reading maps (it is very easy to get lost because of the oh, so narrow old streets!) and the horse-drawn carriages waiting for tourists opting for this kind of sightseeing...

Forgot to ask the price, just to know it...

I was busy following the others in the crowd and at the same time I wanted to capture everything with my camera...

A restaurant ready for the lunch crowd...

This was around 11 am, the first tourists were already seated and ordered a bit to eat. And those are bitter -orange trees, they are all over the city and they give Sevilla that special perfume in April!!
Nearly every place offers this sight, the traditional and delicious Spanish jamón:

Loved this sign, it was a flamenco place with a live show:

And here is where we ended up having a nice pot of tea, don't you love the name??

Stay tuned, I have more pictures...
