dendrology : study of trees
I love trees and this one in particular caught my attention during my last vacation in Central Chile. It is called palo borracho (drunken tree). Please note the thick conical thorns in clusters on the trunk, it certainly is a special tree.
Update: "Note, too, that in South America there's a tree called Chorisia speciosa that, because of its twisted shape, is nicknamed "the drunken tree" (in Spanish it's palo borracho, "drunken stick"). Source

ReplyDeletethat is one cool tree indeed. i suppose i am a dendrophile.
ReplyDeletehaven't seen you in while on the memes. glad to see you back.
I had never heard of dendrolatry but I may be an adherent. I love my trees and can't imagine living somewhere that trees weren't a major part of the landscape. In 2009 a tornado hit our small town and 600 homes were damaged, 100 destroyed, and over 11,000 trees destroyed. The appearance of the town is drastically different than it was before the storm. You can rebuild homes but you can't replace 11,000 100 year old trees.

ReplyDeleteI love trees. What a great word -- new to me. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors. I wonder why they call it the drunken tree? Does the sap have alcohol?
