Rain, clouds and fog are undesirable companions when you are visiting a magical place like the Pena National Palace (located in Sintra near Lisbon, Portugal), even if you are not planning to use a camera... It was a fascinating tour, though, which started with a train ride, I wish we would have had sunshine that day (for a sunny picture of the palace click here).
At least there was room to have some fun editing the picture:
Wow! That palace looked rather mystical with the fog flying about. Nice shot Mar. I also wished it would be sunny too during any sightseeing trips. :)

You are right, sometimes the weather is undesirable for travelers. Love the editing you did. What a cool looking place.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I have a new fantasy place to dream about. I like it even in all of that mist. Beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteFlash Dancing
It's like Fairy Tale land! I would enjoy touring this place.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, Mar!
What a spectacular looking building - -and the fog only lends to the ancient atmosphere. Lovely snaps, MAr! Will we be seeing any of the inside?
ReplyDeleteWe had the same idea Mar, except mine was scenery. Dull grey scenery instead of brilliantly beautiful in good weather.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you
The weather gives this such a mysterious look. And it's just wonderful. I'd love to see that. Well done my friend :)
ReplyDeletethat's a magical place alright. the mist makes it feel more magical and adds a sense of drama to the place.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place Mar. Even with fog you got fantastic shots. I love the effect although I understand why you wanted blue skies. Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteShame about the weather. Still it is a beautiful place. Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteWow - what a great palace!! I actually love the fog in the photo!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
See you found a good scenario to an undesirable situation... :) It's still a lovely castle!
ReplyDeleteit looks like sometihng out of disneyland. the fog effect
ReplyDeleteWow, Mar, now that you've shown me even the undesirable photos you have of it, you've now made me want to visit such an amazing looking castle some day! :D
ReplyDeleteWith the fog I still find this a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteIt must be cold when you were there. Nice work with the editing :)
ReplyDeletewow, what an enchanting castle! rain is really a bummer especially when you're on tour.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place, even with the fog....
ReplyDeleteMine is up but the photos may be rather disturbing. The first I used in an earlier PhotoHunter but the second is one I haven’t dared put up publicly before. Just warning you…
Me encantan.
ReplyDeleteLike a scene from a movie!
Lovely place and beautiful shots! Why do you want to photograph in sun??? I always try to avoid that.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a great weekend.
It still looks terrific ! What a big fortress !
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem I couldn't take a picture of our yearly Christmas tree on the Grand'Place because .... it rains ! or it's foggy
What a beautiful castle! I like it in both fog and sunshine. Glad you posted it, but I think it is a little far from the theme "Undesireable". I guess you mean that the fog made it difficult to take a pic. At any rate, you have taken lovely photos of a grand building.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I found this theme kinda hard. The obvious choice - that many have chosen - is to photograph creepy things like bugs, spiders and other items that you really don't want to even look at, is not what I enjoy doing for fun!
Happy Weekend!
Anna
To me....fog is one weather phenomenon I DESIRE! LOL...so it's a beautiful shot. Fog and all.
ReplyDeleteMine's HERE come on over...I'd love your visit. Happy Hunting.
Sometimes fog can cause accident specially when you are driving...Good choice for the theme. Happy hunting. Mine is ready.
ReplyDeleteWow! Truly looks like a magical place! I kind of think the fog adds to it.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
That looks like such a wonderful place, and while the mistiness looks atmospheric, sun would have been so mcu nicer.
ReplyDeleteWHAT a stunning place! Wow! Your photos give it an eerie, mystical feel. I would love to explore that place!
ReplyDeleteMy Photo Hunt: Undesirable is up. I hope you have time to visit. Have a good weekend.
Oh, I'd love to visit there. But I'm with you. Partly cloudy to make some nice shots with the sky. Fog can make some interesting photos though.
ReplyDeleteGreat photohunt!
ReplyDeleteIt might have been an undesirable day.... but made for some great photos!
Very atmospheric
ReplyDeleteDepends on what you're after. I like the edited version of the picture better than the clear day shot. But then, I'm the kind to go in for editing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo -- despite the fog!
ReplyDeleteI have a few like that myself, but I've never mastered editing. What a beautiful end result!
ReplyDeleteSintra is so beautiful! :) i think that Pena is probably the most romantic palace/castle in Portugal... did you try the queijadas? http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/sweets/queijadas-de-sintra-sintra-cheesecakes-077981
ReplyDeleteby the way, i wish i could travel as much as you. en un par de meses quando la mariposa este con mas peso salimos por europa viajando!
Love these mystique shots :)
ReplyDeleteLooks very mystical and interesting!
