photohunt: b i r d ( s)

is hosted by tnchick on Saturdays, I am an early bird every week...

Bird of paradise or crane flower (Strelitzia reginae). I'd love to grow one in my garden. I have seen them in my neighborhood. I took the above picture earlier this month in Lisbon, Portugal,  at a public park.

  9. I think these are among the most gorgeous flowers. Here they grow wild. A neighbor was complaining the other day because one had planted itself in her garden. I would have been happy to find it in mine.

  21. Don't you find it amazing that flowers are still blooming in Novemeber? I'm in Madrid and arrived from Canada where nothing blooms outdoors at this time of the year.

Of course, if you grew in Portugal, then it might not be so amazing.

  22. Such an exotic flower for a northern European like me. :) The nearest I've ever seen them was in parks in the south of France. Beautiful shot, and a nice twist on the theme.

  26. I love your take on the hunt's theme! Very creative.

Every time I see one a Bird of Paradise plant, I remember my first home here in Florida. There was a pesky plant that I couldn't get rid of in my shrubbery, no matter how often I cut it back. My aunt was over on one of my weeding days, and nearly had a heart attack at the sight of me treating this beautiful tropical plant as a weed...
