little lantern

November 11 is St Martin's Day. A German tradition on such day is a lantern procession or Laternenumzug, where the children march around with paper lanterns in the early evening, singing songs. This is a scene in Barcelona after the march and I love to have captured the little guy staring at the tea light burning inside his lantern. Shutter's luck!

The wonderful SabineM shared this award with me, yesterday, just hours after I had gotten the one in my prior post! How lucky can I get? Thank you very, very much Sabine, I am thrilled and honored! I am also known for not following the rules...

  1. OMG ! that reminds me childhood ! But we made the laterns ourselves in school and then was the procession and after that we rang at all the doors to get some sweets ! Just like they do for Halloween in America.
    Nice picture !

  8. i LOVE this photo!

in the slovenian folks tradition st.martin transforms must into wine and a lot of new wine is drunk in order to celebrate this tradition. also, roast goose is a traditional food on the occasion.

  11. OH that reminds me of my youth! We did that in Switzerland as well!
Lovely! (glad you don't follow the rules- I am Swiss, it is in our genes to follow the rules--it practically kills us to be late or change the rules!)
