manic monday: bat

( pls find Weekend Snapshot below!)

manic monday home**

This is the first time I take part in this meme, only because I just read Gattina's bat post and I have a story to tell.

It was during my college years in the US, that's long time ago! But I remember that morning very well. Got up to get the paper as every day and came into my room with a cup of coffee to read the news. I had no bed but a mattress on the carpeted floor, I was very poor hadn't gotten around to get a real bed and it truly didn't bother me at all: my bones were hardly over 20 years young.

At any rate, I was reading the paper sitting on my bed and all of a sudden I saw something crawling under the bedroom door...I first thought it was maybe a little bird but no, it was a scary little black thing so I ran out of the room and slammed the door. What to do? I woke up my two roommates, Jean was the practical one and decided first to lock the bat in the room by placing our textbooks on the floor by the door. Textbooks can be useful in real life sometimes.

Andrea (I know you are reading this from heaven!) was the coquette one and she saw here the grand chance she had been waiting for in order to meet the guys next door so she went to get the one who was awake. He first came in to inspect the situation and went into the room. Got out shaking his head and telling us young ladies that we were right: a bat was in there and he had to go get the appropriate equipment.

The young guy had a great sense of humor so he came back with a shoe box, a woolen cap as helmet... and a baseball bat! Of course he made a show out of it and made all kind of noises inside my bedroom with closed door , pretending he was in a fight with a giant (or two!).

Our neighbor managed to get the bat into the box. After knowing the bat was captured, the young ladies were concerned about his well-being. The bat was set free to find his way back home. So that's the happy ending of this little story: the bat returned home safely and we had new friends!

  1. In details it's even a better story, lol ! I imagine the scene the (hysterical) girls waiting outside the door for help ! I have never seen a real bat or maybe in a zoo, so I really don't know how I would react ! I am only afraid or more disgusted by spiders. But for knowing these guys the mean was great !

  2. That is a great story! I thought that the punchline was going to be that you or one of your roommates ended up marrying the young man from next door (smile).

I've never seen a bat in real life and that is perfectly fine by me!

  5. That would make a great scene in a movie ... the terrorized young things seductively waiting for rescue by the helmeted hero.. love it.

  6. Cute story! I'm so glad it had a happy ending as bats are such very docile creatures.

I have to admit that I would probably be a bit freaked out by one trying to come into my home too.
