I was downtown Barcelona yesterday. I started thinking "blogically" and decided to play tourist. So I stood in front of La Pedrera (Catalan for 'The Quarry') like a guiri (pronounced girry), which is the word used here to call the tourists, and took pictures for a future post (today's!). The locals are all away on vacation so I was truly a minority and could hardly hear any Spanish in the streets, but every other possible language! People were also busy reading...the Barcelona city guide!
This is an amazing building and I still have to go way up to the roof to take more pictures. But the line to get into the Pedrera and up to the roof is always very long and I therefore leave it for the next trip to the city! which is 30 minutes with the train.

This building is a ...."Project of Antoni Gaudí i Cornet of 1905, built between 1906 and 1910 for the Milà family. This is one of the main Gaudí residential buildings and one of the most imaginative houses of the architecture history, this building is more a sculpture than a building". Source and impressive pictures here
I could spend hours staring at this building , finding new perspectives.
Indeed that's a very special building but I think it would be nice to live in there. Since I am blogging I now have always a target to play tourist what I never did before and I discover things I never payed attention to. Finally it's nice to be a tourist in its own country !
ReplyDeleteArthur und Rosie kämpfen miteinander wie zwei Judokämpfer hier zu meinen Füssen. Der dicke Arthur kommt kaum mit, lol !
I LOVE this building, too....You have posted it before, but I don't remember that wonderful perpective from close up below--loooking up! And you are so right. It truly is a Sculpture....! Magnificent. Can't wait to see the pictures from up above when you go back to the city!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you decided to play tourist Mar! Your photo's are geat and I love the ones showing the detail. Gaudi is such a distinctive artist and I love that he used buildings as his canvas at times. It makes Barcelona so distinctive!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me to see you. Imagine my surprise at being site of the day!
Barcelona is a treasure for all those who love art! i'd like so much to visit this town! Gaudi's architecture is fabulous, original.
ReplyDeleteAnd in 1906!
What an interestig building, it looks like someone's masterpiece. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI was also going to write that I LOVE this building, but someone beat me to it. It looks fantastic, almost organic, as if it sprang from the earth on its own.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI never got to Barcelona when we lived in Spain. We did Galicia and the northern coast into Andorra.
I'll have to come visit sometime.

ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! I can not WAIT to see it when I get to Barcelona!!! Can we have LUNCH there or something? I mean... what is it for? Now?
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting building! I love the different angles it has, so wonderful to look at! Architecture is one of my favorite art forms to photograph, especially when it's as beautiful as this!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Gaudi building. I've attended a party there once, too. It also has that amazing spiral staircase inside.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about doing ome local 'tourist' things too. I occasionally blog about an aspect of London knowing (a) its of interest to me (b) lots of people won't know the area (c) some will, but still like to be reminded!
