Today's TT is dedicated to my weekend trip to Valencia where I had the privilege to watch the first race of the America's Cup from a spectator boat. The prior two posts refer to this extraordinary event, a match race between Alinghi of Switzerland (the defender) and Emirates Team New Zealand (the contender). It was more than words can say, I hope the thirteen pictures can give you an idea of that day. The Swiss Air Force had a fabulous air show before the race. When the racing boats were about to make the turn around the buoy we were surrounded by helicopters which were in turn transmitting the event, thus adding to the excitement , it felt like in a film! There are a maximum of 9 races, current stand after Day 4 is 2:2. The first team winning 5 races gets to take the America's Cup home.
One Kiwi sailor, Tom Schnackenberg, described it like this:
"The America's Cup is a microcosm of the world. It's real and it's gripping and you can enjoy it on all sorts of levels - at a managerial level, because it's quite complex, from a sporting point of view, from trying to understand mother nature, whether the weather or the waves, or trying to understand the physics of the boats. It's a war game, and the boats are beautiful.

That's pretty cool. Must have been an exciting event to be upclose and personal. I would have loved to see it as well. Thanks for sharing the slideshow.

ReplyDeleteMichele sent me this time.
I may run away with you and ditch my kids and hubby LOLOLOL.... It looks so peaceful where you are!
ReplyDeleteMichele sent me over this time, Mar.
ReplyDeleteI like pictures 7, 9, and 11 best. Seeing the boats heel in on pic 11 gives some vague feel for what it must have been like. Amazing. There's something else for my list of things to do in life--front seat for an America's Cup race.
I really like the app you're using to show the pictures also, Mar. That's really sweet!
Oh wow! How exciting. I loved the pictures. It was like I was there.
ReplyDeleteStopping by to say hello....
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures. I adore The America's Cup, in fact I adore everything about it.
There is not much coverage of it but it is easy to seek out. I nod my head in agreement with everyone above me who remarked on how wonderful the pictures are.
Thank you Mar, for sharing them with us. Have a glorious day!
It sure did. It made me feel like I was on it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit.
I'm so sorry for taking my sweet time in getting over here from Michele's. I've been reading in between doing some deadlined work...so I've fallen behind in my commenting.
ReplyDeleteI'd never forget you!
Thanks for reminding me of why sailing is such a magical sport. I remember learning to sail a Laser when I was a teenager. The feeling you got when the sails filled and the boat started to move was amazingly powerful. I can still feel it today. I'd love to head out again.
oh, how nice to see all that water after 10 years in the desert! michele says hi.
ReplyDeleteDiscovered you at Michele's. Love the photos and would have loved to have been there. Not much ocean here in Missouri.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
