Wishing well
a well where, traditionally, wishes were thought to be granted, especially if coins were dropped into the water (Retrieved from the wiktionary)
While in Santiago de Compostela (northern Spain) I was surprised to find a pub with irregular stone walls... that was not the surprising fact but all the coins displayed on them! since there was no wishing well in the neighborhood people just decided to make a wish anyways and leave a coin on the wall! And it looked like below, if there is a wish there is a way! The wishing wall (as our LadyBug called it in the comments!) :

And nobody collects them ? I would bring my piggy bank !
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my menu ! Can't you get another T-Shirt saying "I am too old to cook" ? That's not very romantic but it says what it says lol ! With the age I become lazier and lazier, but that's why retirment is for isn't it ? My husband used to cook too, actually when we married, I couldn't cook at all and he showed me. But now it's finished too, but we are not starving !

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting idea. And so much easier to collect the coins from a wall than to have to fish them out of a fountain. I would think some would have to go so that there would be room for everyone to make a wish.
Hope the knees get better.
So what's holding them on? make a nice effect though!
ReplyDeleteHere from Michele's.
I've been to Santiago a million times. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe wishing wall is so neat!
Get better soon!

ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! What a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteMar - that is so cool! So unique and so different! I really like it. If you were there now, I'd ask you to put one on for us to get our water back to normal! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! This is soooooo funny! I mean interesting! (it's FUNNY because I have a "wish" about YOU in my Friday Feast today!) Ironic? Wells or walls... a wish is a wish! Hope all those penny wishes come true!!!
ReplyDeleteI know what I'd wish for in a bar ;o) How's the knee feling after the massage?
ReplyDeleteLaquet
How do they stay up there? Are they just able to sit there because oif the irrefularities? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow. I haven't seen anything like that before. It must be a very honest place for people not to take them!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool! I'd make a wish...and seeing it's my birthday I would make two wishes!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love visiting you, you always have neat stuff!!
I've want to go to Santiago de Compostela ever since reading Paulo Coehlo's "The Pilgrimage."
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pics. Here from Michele
Are they glued to the wall, Mar? I can't believe that people don't take them. Michele sent me today.

I love the idea of a 'wishing wall'. That would have been a great idea for us to have done in our old house; it had a huge irregular stone fireplace that would have worked perfectly!

It's a comment on the limitless hope that seems to fuel the human spirit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely set of images and what a lovely comment on society. I guess it's possible to pretty much wish on anything.
