Michele's side effect

Yes, his blog can affect your mind!! Met my blogfriend rashbre (yes, I did!!) for lunch on wednesday. No, it wasn't a wordless wednesday, we had a lot to talk about! He flew from the UK to Spain on business and had a very busy schedule. Every step towards meeting each other is worth a post. Thought you might like to hear the overall story... I know you do, only it will be plainly told, as my writing skills are very limited. ( Yes, I sometimes wonder what am I doing with a blog...)

First we e-mailed but it looked like there wasn't going to be a chance to meet. Then there were a few schedule changes, a nice short conversation on the phone, place and time were set. Such a different experience! Meeting someone I sort of knew - through Michele's site - but really didn't. He doesn't include a photo in his profile and I don't either, we both don't post our pictures so we really didn't know who to look for at the meeting place. I have to say rashbre spotted Mr Mar and I first, and then everything went easy! We always say it is nice to put a face to a blog so you can imagine or you already have experienced that it is a lot better to actually meet the person behind the url. He is the very first blogger I meet from my blogroll. And I hope he is not the last one, so book Barcelona, quick!

There are no pictures of this lunch because rashbre was here on an official trip wearing his corporate image. Yes, he is a (serious, successfull, all of the above) businessman when he is not blogging (what?? do bloggers actually have jobs??). He is also the nicest person (and I am not writing this because I know he will read this!) and learning a bit about his schedule, I am amazed he still finds some time to blog. We had a nice chat while we enjoyed our lunch, rashbre was willing to try some Catalonian specialties, which he seemed to have enjoyed . We certainly enjoyed sharing a bit of "our" place !
Thanks, rashbre, for re-organizing your busy schedule so that we could have lunch with you! It was such a fun and different experience. And next time you are around, you will be immediately recognized!

Update: don't miss rashbre's (wonderfully written) version!!

  1. Oh how fun. I know that when I have met my internet friends for the first time it is always an exciting, nervous time!! You feel like you know them, yet you have never met them. Sounds like a fun time was had.

Stopping by via Michele this evening to say Hello!!

  3. I also found our experience immensely enjoyable and have posted my equivalent view of our great Catalan lunch across on rashbre central!

This was one occasion when I could hardly wait to make a post, to tell others what fun I'd had meeting mar and Mr mar in sunny Barcelona! (we'd both agreed to wait until Friday to say anything)

    Super best regards!

  12. It's fun meeting a blogfriend, isn't it?

  13. Mar,
I am so jealous. It makes me want to climb onboard the next jet plane to Spain.

I read your account and rashbre's account. It sounds like you had a wonderful time and that there were no long pauses in the conversation, as there might be when people don't know each other well.

On the other hand, when we read each others blogs over a long period of time, we are magically good friends.

  14. It is quite an endeavor to meet a blogfriend. I have never done it but I have a few folks that I would like to meet if they ever get out here or I ever go into their neck of the woods. Barcelona sounds delightful. Visiting from Michele's today and enjoyed it very much.

  15. Michele sent me to you today, Mar.

Like you, I met Rashbre via Michele's site quite a while back. Unlike you, Mar, I've never met anyone that I've blogged with. Maybe someday...

  17. I love this story! I'll visit him after my breakfast. By the way, I think I know what you look like, Mar. I recall one photo of you...with sunglasses on? Or was that in a dream?

I almost met Paul from "Writing from the Hip" in a similar way. Joe and I were driving through Kansas and emailed him. We were all game, but in the end the city exit and lack of a meeting place was too imposing.

I almost went to Woodstock too.

  18. Now that sounds like so much fun Mar! I have to say that while I was visiting Switzerland last summer again, I got to visit a fellow blogger and it was just so much fun, especially meeting the person behind the blog. I'll be sure to check out his blog too! Lovely...

I've had the good fortune of meeting blog friends too. I have found more friends with interests similar to mine this way than any other way.

  26. Back again from michele.
I really do have to go get cleaned up. Yesterday and today I have hand washed, hand waxed and buffed my daughter's car, had the oil changed, state inspection and replaced the battery that was about to give up the ghost. I power blasted her car mats and removed all trash. I also cleaned her little dorm frig and planted white pan squash, cucumbers, watermelon and sunflowers. It is now too hot to work outside, there is a thunderstorm watch and I am melted to nothing like the wicked witch of the north or is it south, east, west... I just never remember that.
I hope your sis didn't get sick at one of the Mexican food restaurants there on the San Antonio RiverWalk (or as I like to refer to it the "sewer walk".

  33. That's great! It's always exciting to meet new people and especially if you've been talking to them for long without seeing.

You know, one of my niece's is going to Barcelona in July together with other girlfriends. They're going to study there for a couple of months. I bet they're going to have FUN!

They did the same last year too, but then in Alicante and I somehow have got the thought that Barcelona is more fun...

  34. Oh - this is so awesome. I just read rashbre's account of the 'meet'. Too cool.
Yeah - if I had the money and the time I would book a flight to Barcelona and have a great lunch with you. Maybe one day this will happen :). Thank you for sharing your meeting with the public.

  39. You're right I did enjoy reading this! It's so much fun when you get to meet a blogging friend. It was this time last year I met one of my blogging friends for the first time we're now really close 'real' friends despite the fact she lives in the States and I'm in England. We've both visited each other's homes and will again!

I'm so excited you got to meet one of your blogging friends and that it went so well! :D
