lunar fascination

These are pictures from the lunar eclipse taken by my dear sis from her Santiago (Chile) flat last night and graciously shared with me ! Little did she know I was going to hit the publish button right away. She apologized for the amateur pictures but I find them great. Thank you, sis!

Isn't it simply fascinating?? I look out the window at 2am CET (Central European Time) and the moon looked like in the second picture...only the other way around! because of the different hemispheres.

I have been looking at the eclipse pictures found in Flickr, absolutely mesmerizing!

  1. It is so strange when you see the moon the other way around. In Egypt a little boy told me the moon is sleeping because it lay instead of standing. Now I understand why yesterday night it was so bright outside when I opened the window door but I couldn't see the moon it was too cloudy.
For Mr. Gattino it is every night full moon and for Lisa too !! (poor me)

  2. Cool! I love watching eclipses, it's one of the few times we can actually see that the earth and moon are actually moving!

  6. I was all set up and started to take the shots and what happened next? The clouds moved in and it started to snow!

  7. Thank you to your sister for sharing the photographs and of course to you for posting them. The lunar eclipse fascinated me. I'm going to see if any of my shots are worth posting. I may just post the weird sky. Between clouds and trees which interfered with where it was during the eclipse I had a lot of obstacles but hopefully of the 50 some shots I took a couple will work. Your sister did a good job and I also like the fact that you gave us the links to peruse too.

  8. I'm so glad to see these photos. I missed it myself. I do remember thinking it had snowed because the yard was full of full moon light.

  13. All we had was cloud :( so it is great to be able to see your sister's pictures. They really are good!

Did you have cloudy skies too? Did they bring any rain?

  14. Lovely! We had a lot of cloud cover as well and the eclipse was hardly visible here. I was asleep anyway, though, so thanks for the pictures! :-)

  15. Ah, yes, I heard about that but didn't have the time or energy to watch it. Now I regret that, because they said that it would be red here in Stockholm. Now I wonder if that can have been what we saw in the summer once...

BTW: You mentioned Tavira in your comment. Funny enough, I had already a post ready about Tavira which I posted tonight :-)

How cool, maybe we was there at the same time, both you, Tor and I? *giggles*

  25. Great shots Mar, thanks for sharing them. I think I would have loved to have watched the eclipse with your sister in Chile. It looked like it was much warmer than it was here. Thanks for dropping by!
