small is beautiful

This is a precious small building in the Les Corts district in Barcelona. Once a family home, today it houses a bank office and a pharmacy. The urban collection of containers in front of it sort of damages the beautiful view... next to the yellow mailbox on the left there is first the garbage and then the recycling center: yellow lid is for plastic, green igloos are for glass and the blue lid is for paper/cardboard.

This is the Torre Cortés, modernist style, built in 1913 by Salvador Valeri i Pupurull (1873- 1954) whose work "is characterized by spectacular frontispieces of waved design, following the Art Nouveau common criteria, contributing a exuberant sculptural decoration with vegetal designs of very varied forms". The details are beautiful, click to enlarge the pictures for a better view.

Even the roof tiles are colorful!

  8. I love this style.....That almost-combination of Neveau and Deco....Too bad they had to have all their refuse containers out there covering a lot of the beauty of the building....
