Adieu World Cup

Germany 3: Portugal 1

Germany won the 3rd place in the current World Cup *hear the crowd going wild!!* - What a game, see some photos here , in case you are interested... I just had to have a final post on all this excitement!! can't just take the button down without a few words... it was a great night for German football, the fans cheered Juergen Klinsmann ("Klinsi"), the trainer, and all the players just as if they had won the first place! The whole country was a big party and I am sure they will continue celebrating today.

Tonight is the big (final ) game France vs Italy, allez les bleus!!
Breaking news: well, Italy won by penalty kicks... oh, well. Congrats to the champions!

Finally, a little trivia rescued from the net, because I love these kind of very useful information *insert big smile*:

This was Germany's third World Cup bronze medal. They have collected more than any other nation. Brazil, France and Poland finished third twice.

Bastian Schweinsteiger became the 15th player to score twice in a single match at the tournament. Petit's own goal was the fourth at the 2006 World Cup. The 1954, 1974 and 1998 World Cups also witnessed four own goals. Germany used 22 players. Only goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand did not feature. Argentina and Spain also used 22 players during the 2006 finals.

Costinha's yellow card was his fourth of the tournament, tying him with Ghana's Asamoah Gyan for most cautions received at the 2006 World Cup. The only other player ever to receive four yellow cards at a single World Cup was Bulgarian Zlatko Jankov in 1994. Portugal amassed a total of 24 yellow cards during the finals, breaking the record (23) that was held by Bulgaria since 1994.

And last, but not least: John Paul Sartre once said, "In football everything is complicated by the presence of the other team." Well, he actually said "Au football, tout est compliqué par la présence de I'équipe adverse" , which has a lot more charm, doesn't it?
