while the sun is bright

I am not daltonian, however this is my entry for Ruby Tuesday. Loved this (busy) scene at high noon in the middle of summer, another Chile moment. Notice the bright sun and intense light, the luscious green, a lovely poncho-dress and scarf. And the reflection... If you look closer you will see a ruby spot on the left (it could be a window) and some red tiny flowers . Plus some ruby lips.  Did you find them all?

beige

This week's color is beige. I was rather lost until a look out of my window showed me the way to the beach yesterday morning, strong winds were lifting up  much  sand in the air and believe me, it was a bit difficult to take pictures. This is what it looked like, fantastically empty during a school morning. And beige, if you ask me :)

Which reminded me of the sand sculptures I saw in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, two years ago before Christmas. Hope the Three Wise Men are beige enough for this post!

S & T

This week's letters weren't nearly as difficult as last week's!!  First, I found an S looking at  this glass door at a lovely pastry shop (second layer of this modernist handle!)

I love these T's ! these porcini were huge, notice the battery for size comparison. Picture taken last fall.

papyrus plant

I got a haircut last Friday, I was feeling like these guys...My hair is now slightly above my shoulders. And very, very straight!

I took this picture in Central Chile last January, in the middle of summer and with vineyards in the background.  There is no small animal to the right of the picture, although it looks like it at first sight, doesn't it??

y e l l o w

Homer called it "liquid gold". It is olive oil. My tasty choice for this week's theme: yellow.  Since I live in Spain  I had olive oil and sunshine in mind for the theme, it was very difficult to put that in pictures. Thirty shots later I had to settle for one. It is sometimes easier to go through my archives...!

Q is for quick

A quick post before leaving to my gym/Pilates class.  Had a - rather not quick- coffee with a friend yesterday morning at this café and I quickly took a single  picture.  Then we headed out to the Wednesday market in our village, which mainly  offers textiles and a few plants. Got a tiny ficus benjamina. The walk was quick because my friend has allergies and she wasn't feeling well despite her meds.

Q & R

This week's letters were quite difficult to find, but  thanks to creative minds and laborious hands (definitely not mine! but the images have been saved in my archives), here they are.  I found a Q looking up at a Barcelona music hall ( Palau de la Musica Catalana), a most beautiful building with a pretty ceiling decoration in the foyer too: wide  arches with marvelous glaze ceramic flowers .

I found an R looking at this wonderful work, which decorates a wine tasting place in France, more precisely in Le Caveau de Morgon,  Morgon , which we visited last summer. This stained glass wall is quite large, see the chairs on the lower right side for comparison.

untitled

I saw this plant in Chile last January, I don't know what it is and I hope somebody will tell me its name in the comments (click to enlarge).

We lost a dear friend in Chicago yesterday. A heart attack took him away from us at age 55... I was the maid of honor in their wedding 28 years ago.

Updated to thank you all for the kind comments ...

    v i o l e t at the market place

When I read  violet was this week's theme, I thought of lavender and the beautiful  lavender fields. The closest image I have  is the following shot from a market place last summer in France,  featuring lavender soap and the Provence cicadas.

And another favorite violet found at the same market place:

    O & P

Continuing with Melli's Alphabet Meme, in which we are challenged to find hidden letters around us, it is now time for O, which was very easy to find. In fact, I had too many choices so I opted for a small collage. Oh!!

P wasn't as easy but a random shot helped me out. See the P on the left?  Moreover, the line drawn by the bottles' side going up to include the labels and back makes a ( tiny) P as well. Plus the white jugs' handles also contribute to make a P! Did I miss  other P's??

    she just can't be chained

This ruby chain was hanging from the ceiling at an old Chilean hacienda's stables, I saw young ladies using them  as a sitting help ( sue me , I have absolutely no idea about the equestrian world!)  in preparation for a horseback ride. In fact one of the young ladies went by right when I took this picture, leaving and unexpected but welcomed blurry effect in the background.

    camouflage

This little guy is about 4 cms/1.5 inches "big". He was scared to see me in my own garden. They always move very quickly and it wasn't easy to have his picture taken. To my surprise: he even jumped! I didn't know they could do this, I think he has been watching the squirrels... He was a lovely break while working in the garden, which mainly meant watching Mr Mar cutting and stacking up logs  (from the fallen pine trees in late January) for our fireplace.

    s p a c e

This little guy has  limited space in his cage at a pet shop...

    Fun Friday

    1.  Being polite among mad drivers yesterday was  my  last random act of kindness...

    2. Another place wouldn't be as special.

    3. There is no logic  in matters of the heart.

    4. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

    5. Don't go separate paths.

    6. Our garden reminds me that there is much work to get done. The current strong winds are not helping.

    7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to a glass of chilled champage, tomorrow my plans include ...gardening!  and Sunday, I want to hug my son, who is spending a few days in Germany.

    Friday Flora

Platycerium bifurcatum, the Elkhorn fern,  as seen in Chile. I have never seen this plant before and it  looked simply wild !

    M & N

Continuing with Melli's  Alphabet Challenge, in which we are asked to find hidden letters around us, it is now time for M, which I found in my archives as little wooden pieces decorating a small dam:

    And for N:

I am using the same window I used last week for K... This is not just any window, I found it  in Pamplona, the Spanish city better known for the San Fermin Festival and the running of the bulls... , which is not the kind of festival I could ever enjoy. But they have this wonderful place called "Café Iruna" (Iruna is the Basque for "Pamplona"),  an old café from 1888 and reportedly Hemingway's favorite place in that city!!  I can understand why.  Because you might want to see some more of it, find below other  pictures of the place I visited in 2006 (click to enlarge at your own risk, since the quality is not the best!).

    clouds and candles

I love to look at clouds to find hidden faces or figures. That's why this one over the Med had my attention this past weekend...

I got this scented candle from a friend, it's actually a Xmas scent  but I haven't been home to enjoy it. This is what was left of it last night, after watching the first episode of "The Mentalist" on German television. Home alone, as Mr Mar is shortly gone on business. This was a soothing sight (and perfume!)
