dedicated to the curious minds

Curious minds asked  about the painting, which was the subject of yesterday's post. It was not a door, it was rather hidden outside the building , the artichochoke and the  ladybug were painted on a side wall of the restaurant shown below ( follow the blue arrow pointing at the artichoke).

The better view was to the other side, facing Lake Annecy.
And another detail of the restaurant, this time the painted item was a lamp.

Updated after the third comment to include Jientje's new ABC- in-  idioms  meme!
I wasn't ready to participate but it's a lady's right to change her mind, particularly when the matter is a fun and challenging meme, like this one. Read all about it here.  I'm giving it a try in the spur of the moment, using the pictures of the current post for this week's letters (A and B).

At the drop of a hat

If you would do something at the drop of a hat, you'd do it immediately.

I would go back to this place at the drop of a hat!

Big picture
The big picture of something is the overall perspective or objective, not the fine detail.

You got the big picture with this post's first pic!

corn on the cob

Giving a draft the chance to join the blogosphere... this picture was taken last fall. Valencia was sunny and beautiful, but couldn't find the bougainvillea from the prior post. There will be another chance soon and this time I will contact the tourist information office!

Update after the 1st comment (thanks quilly !) I found out the tourist office uses sk*ype so I had a nice chat with ...someone! since I couldn't tell if it was a he or a she (it was a typed chat, not a call, this is for Gattina!)... anyways, I sent them the picture and expected to receive  a full address and probably a google map... but no: she/he did not recognize the structure,  there are too many bougainvilleas in the city, he/she wrote,  and the one I photographed (the headless elephant) didn't ring a bell...

benches under the bougainvillea

The bougainvillea construction (could I call it a canopy?) reminds me of a floral elephant, somehow. I saw this in Valencia a year ago. I will go there tomorrow (it's a 3-hour drive) to check if it is still there and to maybe get a sunny picture of it (click to enlarge!). Hope I can find the bougainvillea again, my sense of orientation is not my best feature! I will be resuming normal blogging activities on Monday. Until then blog, comment, and be merry.

And if you have a moment, maybe you'd like to participate in the world mosaic, submit a picture of the world around you, only today, since it is Earth Day:

Y and Z

Melli's Alphabet Challenge comes to an end this week with the last two letters. First is the Y from my archives and in case you missed the purse holder seen at a Barcelona fish restaurant, a very practical device for the ladies!

A Z  from my archives and  seen at the French Alps, also backwards like it is shown below:

Thanks for a fun photo challenge, Melli, I'm seeing letters now wherever I go, it was also fun to see what the participants found for the theme. I  enjoyed this very much!!

back in one piece

The ski season is over (Alpine stations will close in about ten days) and I am glad I am back in one piece! These are my ski boot and skis photographed at midday. Not a good light for pictures! While down in the valley it was definitely springtime, we could still ski very well on the slopes. It was very sunny and mild, this time  we could hear the birds singing while we were skiing. We spent a wonderful Easter Sunday brunch with friends who live near Geneva and have a view of the Mont Blanc from the terrace,  it wasn't perfect on Sunday but the sight was still glorious (click to enlarge!):

And for dessert: two chocolate Xs, just because I know you will be kind enough to wait for my comments until I get back!! Happy Easter!

stripes and some news

::· ·:: hosted by tnchick

First the bad news (because I'd love to pretend I will be missed!) : I will be gone for a week to enjoy the above scenery and for some spring skiing, last chance this season. Therefore blogging will be rather thin postponed until later but I will be back for the alphabet challenge on Wednesday. The good news: I had the chance to meet the wonderful Bob-kat yesterday!! she isn't resting like her profile picture shown on the left, but visiting Barcelona for a few days and it was simply delightful to meet her. It felt like seeing an old lost friend somehow. It's amazing how blogging connects people, also in real life. We were too busy talking so we forgot to take pictures, therefore there is no real proof of our meet up but there are witnesses!

After a whole week of clouds and rain in Spain, I was happy to wake up to sunshine today again. That means Bob-kat can take wonderful pictures of her stay to share on her blog. And as I am preparing this post, more good news found their way to me: Proximidade, an award created by Dawn at Twisted Sister. and passed on to me by the wonderful Jientje (Thank you very much, Jientje, you made my day!) described as follows:

This blog invests and believes in proximity- nearness in space, time and relationships. Nominated bloggers are exceedingly charming, they aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes for self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. This blog award should be sent to another eight bloggers and they, in turn, should forward it to eight of their favorites. You should include the text for Proximidade in your blog announcement. And please note that all awards and tags are optional…“This blog invests and believes in ‘proximity’ [meaning that blogging makes us 'close' - being close through proxy].”

The award is in Portuguese, in case you are wondering. And since you are reading this, know this award has just been passed on to you, should you so desire.

U and the bunny

This week I found a V inside a U in my archives. A beautiful Art Nouveau door frame.

Updated to enclose the following, because Gattina didn't see the U...

And because the Easter Bunny is already around, here are his cute long ears forming a perfect V. A souvenir from last summer up in the mountains.
