fashion show

Remember I was in Valencia last weekend? The city is celebrating its big festival now - the Fallas - and here is the traditional costume, which according to this page is "more than just a big dress, the Fallera's costume is the Non Plus Ultra of traditional fashionwear. Covered by enough lace, brocade and satin to bury a man.., these brave women take part in all the city's festivities." I saw this particular (beautiful! ) dress in a shop: silky and shiny. So was the price tag : 2,300 euros (some USD 2,800) but they were offering a 20% discount! if it is not a silk dress but made out of cotton/synthetics prices begin at about 250 euros - USD 300 at the current exchange rate. Now click to enlarge!

A young girl wearing the Fallera costume was having her picture taken professionally outdoors where we were taking a walk, I had my little digital cam only and it was a dark spot compared to the bright sunny day. Sorry about the poor quality. Her dress had a beautiful flower pattern. Here is more information about the traditional dress.

Update: A brighter scene thanks to rashbre !!

  7. I was looking at some pictures from Valencia this morning. They were the effigies which I guess they do something dramatic to at the end of the celebration.

I blatted your lady by the river through photoshop to clean up the colour and light balance. Its here. Sunnier even if the river is now a little idyllic!

  14. It's almost too pretty to wear. The artistry is stunning.

We often forget how inspiring beautiful dresses on beautiful people in beautiful places can be. This entry brings us back into the fold, so to speak.

  17. Wow, I love that red one. It's just spectacular. The yellow one, not so much. The big cabbage roses remind me of the wallpaper on my mother's bedroom walls when I was a kid.

Spanish lace is amazing. I bought some mantillas when I was last in spain, and I'm not even remotely Catholic. I just think they're beautiful.

    Here from you know who.

  25. Fantastic dress, Mar! It is sooo beautifully made, too. Comlex lacing, etc... So they burn these??? Tonight??? (March 19th, you said, I think.)

Thanks for coming by and visiting me Mar....I understand the double edged sword of Sensativity..but, given my druthers, I'd rather BE than not, you know? There IS much joy in it, too...
I dearly appreciate your thoughts and your care, my dear...I think I needed to acknowledge what I was feeling to get past it...you know?
